Regulations

Kentucky’s regulations are codified in a hierarchical system according to a numbering scheme.
Title ###: A numerical code identifying the cabinet or department.
KAR: An abbreviation for Kentucky Administrative Regulation.
Chapter ##: Identifies a major topic within a given title.
Regulation ###: A specific subtopic within a chapter.

All of the regulations in Title 401 are administered by the Department for Environmental Protection. The regulations of the Division of Waste Management are codified within Title 401 KAR Chapters 30 through 49.

Each regulation chapter contains the requirements applicable to a particular program. If a program is too broad to be contained within a single chapter the program is encompassed within a block of chapters, with each chapter relating to a particular aspect of the program.
