Kentucky regulations require that all companies transporting hazardous waste in Kentucky register with the Division of Waste Management. Below are some frequently asked questions.
1. How do I register?
Submit an originally signed Notification of Hazardous Waste Transportation Activity form (DEP-7053). An EPA ID number will be assigned and a Certificate of Registration issued.
2. What if my company is located in another state?
Kentucky will register your company using your EPA ID number from your home state.
3. What is the fee to register?
There is no fee to register as a transporter in Kentucky.
4. Can I register to transport waste other than hazardous waste?
Companies who want to transport other types of waste, such as PCBs, waste oil, radioactive waste or non-hazardous waste must mark the appropriate box on the notification form. There are no other requirements.
5. Does my Certificate of Registration have to be renewed?
There is no renewal requirement for transporters. Registration is one time only. However, if your company is also a Kentucky generator or recycler, you must follow the renewal schedule for generators.
6. Is there a requirement to carry the Certificate of Registration in my truck?
No.
7. Are there other licensing requirements under Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations?
Kentucky adopted the federal DOT regulations; therefore, there is no other licensing requirement in Kentucky. You must follow all federal DOT regulations in 49 CFR.
