The Recycling Assistance Section promotes development of an effective and sustainable recycling infrastructure in Kentucky by providing information and technical assistance to public and private recycling facilities and end-users of recovered materials. This section also strives to develop working solutions to current issues that affect the recycling community as a whole. Fred Kirchhoff is the section supervisor.
Kentucky Recycling and Marketing Assistance Program (KRMA)
The KRMA staff provides information to recyclers and local communities on establishing recycling centers. Staff also identify markets for recyclable commodities and provide the latest market and pricing trends. KRMA staff will conduct site visits to evaluate current or proposed recycling operations. Market analysis and operational performance evaluation are available upon request.
The DWM offers several
publications on these and other topics. A limited number of VHS videos are also available for loan to schools and groups for educational purposes.
We encourage commercial and industrial companies to participate in the Kentucky Buy Recycled Alliance, a program that promotes the purchase of materials with recycled content and overall product stewardship.
Waste Tire Program
The Recycling Assistance staff conducts a statewide
waste tire amnesty program in conjunction with local governments and contracts for the recycling of recovered tires. Additionally, the section helps identify and facilitate the remediation of waste tire dumps and promotes the development of waste tire recycling processes and beneficial end-user markets.

Recycling Market Opportunities
Market Opportunities is a current listing of state, regional and national brokers, processors and end-users that conduct business with Kentucky's recycling industry. This information is collected by the Kentucky Recycling Market Assistance Program, which is dedicated to providing the most accurate information to help recyclers get the best market value for their recovered commodities.
Market Opportunities lists markets for tractor-trailer load lots of materials most commonly recovered by recycling programs. Typical processing specifications for truck lot marketing are included. However, the buyer and seller should negotiate specific quality standards as well as shipping arrangements.
